How to Use

The Tria Hair Removal Laser Precision device is designed to provide permanent hair removal results within about fifteen to twenty minutes of use.  It is recommended that users read the device’s Instructions for Use, which is included with the purchase of the device.  It can also be downloaded from the company’s website.

1)      Thoroughly clean the skin to remove all makeup, lotions, dirt, oil, and any other substances that may interfere with the treatment of the laser.

2)      Shave the treatment area with a new razor.  This allows the laser to penetrate deep down to the hair follicle, where the device will have its maximum effect.

3)      Wipe the skin with a cool, damp cloth to remove shaving cream and soap from the skin.  Make sure that the skin is dry before the following steps.

Note: It is not recommended to wax or pluck hairs between treatments with the Tria Hair Removal Laser Precision.

4)      Unplug the Tria Hair Removal Laser Precision device from its included battery charger.  The evice will not operate when it is plugged in.

5)      Press the device’s Power button to turn it on.  The top and bottom indicator lights will turn green, indicating that the device is locked.

6)      Place the tip of the device gently against the skin that you wish to treat to ensure that your skin tone is appropriate for the Tria Hair Removal Laser Precision device.  The built-in skin tone sensor is located in the treatment tip.  If the skin tone sensor determines that the skin can be treated with the device safely, a series of tones will be emitted, and the Hair Removal Laser’s indicator lights will show either that A) the Low Treatment Level is activated (if it is the first time the device is being used), or B) the last treatment level used is activated.

7)      Choose the appropriate treatment level (Low, Medium, or High).  Higher treatment levels will be most effective, but may increase the risk for skin irritation.

8)      Hold the treatment tip against the skin that you wish to treat, and wait for a beep.  After each beep, move the treatment tip to a new location on the skin.  Each new treatment area should overlap the previously treated area.

9)      Repeat this process every two weeks.  It is important to not exceed more than one time every two weeks.

Duration of Treatment

Tria Beauty recommends using the Tria Hair Removal Laser Precision device every two weeks for at least three months.  Although individuals results will vary, users in a clinical study saw an average of a 70% reduction in their hair growth after just two uses with the device.

Users should expect that after two to three months of use, their hair regrowth will be lighter and finer, and after three months, the hair follicles that have been deactivated will no longer grow back.  After three months, users may need to perform occasional (rare) touch ups.  This is because of the way that hair grows.   For more information about hair growth cycles, and why laser treatments need to be performed over an extended period of time for best results, see the Technology section, below.

Who Can Use

Like many home and professional permanent hair removal treatments, the Tria Hair Removal Laser Precision is not for everyone.  Those with naturally dark skin tones should not use the device because of their increased risk for adverse skin reactions.  However, individuals with light to medium skin tones can use the Tria Hair Removal Laser safely.

The Tria Hair Removal Laser Precision, and most other at-home laser hair removal products are designed to be most effective for those with naturally light brown to black hair color.  This is  because the light in the device targets a pigment in the hair that is responsible for making hair darker in color.  Those with red, blond, gray, or white hairs will not see results with the Tria Hair Removal Laser Precision.  For more information, see the Technology section of this post, below.

The device is designed to be safe for use for men and women.  However, because of the density of men’s facial hair, the device should not be used on men’s faces.  The device is designed for individual use, and is not intended to be shared with others (for hygiene reasons).  It is also not recommended for people under the age of eighteen, or by those who have pregnant or nursing (since it has not been studied on this population).

Parts of the Body Treated

Because of its small, compact, and lightweight design, the Tria Hair Removal Laser Precision is designed to be used on smaller, more sensitive parts of the body.  This includes the bikini line, arms, face (from the cheek line downward, including the chin and upper lip).  It is not designed for use on the genitals, around the nipples, over tattoos, or on large freckles, birthmarks, or moles.  These areas may be more sensitive, and skin irritation may result.  It is also not safe for use around the eyes or eyebrows, as the laser utilized in the device may cause eye damage.

The Tria Laser Hair Removal devices each use the same technology.  However, because of its smaller size, those who wish to treat larger parts of their body should use the Tria Hair Removal Laser 4X.  For more information about the Tria Hair Removal Laser 4X, Click Here.

Safety Features

The Tria Hair Removal Laser Precision uses technology that has been utilized by hair removal specialists, dermatologists, and laser surgeons for many years.  Although the device has been proven to be safe for certain individuals, Tria Beauty has included several safety features into the Tria Hair Removal Laser Precision that helps make it even safer.

The device has a built-in skin sensor that is necessary to unlock the device before it is used.  This helps ensure the safety of the user.  If the skin sensor deems the skin too dark to treat safely, the device will not be able to be unlocked, and the product cannot be used.  Tria Beauty recommends that the user test the skin being treated before each use, since there can be variation in skin tone on various parts of the body.

The Tria hair Removal Laser Precision also features an automatic shut off that powers the device down after it has not been in use for 30 seconds.  This helps save the available battery life of the device.  The device also features a ventilation system that helps keep the device from overheating during use.

Side Effects

The side effects of the Tria Hair Removal Laser Precision are the same as other at-home laser hair removal systems.  During each treatment, users should expect to experience a slight warming of the skinAfter treatment, it is normal for users to experience a mild reddening of the skin that is likely to dissipate after twenty-four hours.  It is also completely normal for users of the Tria Hair Removal Laser Precision to experience a sensation similar to that of having a rubber bad snapped against the skin during each pulse of light.  Users may also experience a warm prickling sensation.  These two sensations, however, should diminish over time, as the number of hairs being treated begins to diminish.

Technology

The advanced diode technology behind how the Tria Hair Removal Laser Precision works is the same as what has been utilized in professional hair removal clinics and salons across the world for many years.  However, the primary difference between the Tria Hair Removal Lasers and other similar at-home hair removal products is the fact that the Tria lasers deliver three times as much hair eliminating energy than other home hair removal products.  This allows the device to remove hair more effectively, and in less time than many other products.

To understand how the Tria Hair Removal Laser works, users should first understand about the phases of hair growth.  Body hair has three distinct phases of hair growth: the Anagen Phase, the Telogen Phase, and the Catagen Phase.  The only phase in which actual hair growth is occurring is during the Anagen phase.  The hairs in the Anagen Phase of growth are the only ones that are permanently affected by the Tria Hair Removal Laser Precision.

Each phase of hair growth lasts a variable amount of time.  However, over the course of about six to eighteen months, most hairs will have traversed through all phases of growth.  This is why treatments from the Tria, and other laser hair removal products, including professional treatments, must be utilized numerous times over the course of several weeks or months.

The light-based hair removal technology that is utilized by many permanent hair removal solutions is designed to target a pigment in the hair called melanin.  This pigment, also found in the skin, is responsible for how dark the hair is.  Each pulse of light delivered by the Tria Hair Removal Precision Laser targets the melanin in the hair, converted the light energy to heat energy.  This rapid heating of the hair causes the follicle to become disabled.  After the hair follicle has been disabled, no further hair growth will occur.  Over time, and after more treatments, more hairs in the Anagen Phase of growth will be targeted, and users will begin to notice that less hair growth is occurring.

The melanin found in hair is also found in the skin.  Those who have darker skin complexion also have more melanin in his or her skin.  When the pigment is found in large quantities in the skin, the laser diode may also inadvertently target the skin melanin, rather than just the hair’s melanin.  This can potentially lead to adverse skin reactions, like discoloration, reddening, and irritation.  However, with the built-in skin sensor of the Tria laser devices, this risk is reduced substantially.  Those who may be concerned about whether or not their skin is too dark for safe treatment can consult the skin color and hair color chart, above.
